The Little Prince: A Book To Remember

"...is often described as a 'children's fable for adults,' is a story which is rich in meaning and symbolism. It is an extremely likable story of a pilot who crashes in the desert and meets a charming little boy from another planet."

The look and the title of this book made me interested in it. I never thought of actually reading it because, at first, I really thought it's one solely for the children. I searched through the internet things about it and I realized that people who read it are mostly adults. Aside from that, this book got tons of great reviews. According to people who read it has a great content though it is quite thin and short compared to other famous novels out there.

This version of the book I got is quite inexpensive compared to the other paperback version (This is only Php175.00). I would have wanted the other cover which is white, with the title in color blue with what seems like in Arial font. But it costs around Php300.00 or more, almost double the price. If I can get the inexpensive one, then, why not, right?

Anyway, I enjoyed reading this book. I started quite slow, thinking this was such a short book and I should really enjoy every line. But as I go on reading the first few chapters, I got somewhat confused and weirded out. Everything seemed kind of gibberish to me. Though I felt this way, I continued reading and things started to make sense and somehow I began to relate to it in one way or another.

There are a lot of twists in the story. So many symbolism in every aspect that one can relate to their dreams, hopes, and even something about love.

I loved the innocence in it, like an adult trying to explain things to little children. The little children at first, took these explanations as it was, without really trying to dig deep into its meaning. However, when these little children grow, little by little they begin to understand. I as a reader went through that process. At first, I took everything literally, but as I continued flipping through the pages, I realized more things and understood what Antoine De Saint Exuprey seemed to say.

These are some of the things I have realized:

1. Never kill anybody's dream

No matter how weird it is, or how impossible it may look like. Listen to them, and believe them. If you can't, just be quiet and let them show you how to be successful! Don't push them to take another path, just because you think they won't make it. It is not your dream. Your purpose here is to be an expectator. Wait for the magic to unfold.

2. Do not listen to people when they say you are not good enough.

People will be people. As the book implies, we are always searching for things which we do not know. We roam around to and fro, lost and always in a hurry because we feel like what we have is not enough or who we are are never enough. Stop! Enjoy the moment. You are the best person for your dream (be it a person or a job). No body else is capable of pursuing them, except you.

3. "You are responsible for what you tame..."

To tame means to give much importance. When you give something or someone much importance, you always give them your valuable time. You put effort in obtaining and taking care of them. When you placed that someone or something as a priority, you bring responsibility towards yourself. Being responsible is such a tedious work. It is never easy and entails a lot of sacrifice, patience and will-power to succeed through all the trials to keep that important thing or person in your life.

4. There may be a lot of fish in the sea, but none is like the one you already have.

There was that part in the book where the little prince talked about his flower. The first time he saw that flower, he have never seen anything like it before. He thought that flower was unique and one of a kind, until he saw thousands of it in the fields when he traveled. He was quite dismayed, until he talked to them and realized that these flowers were nothing like his flower after all. His was the one he tamed; the one he watered, shielded and took care of. In the end, he realized that, after all, his flower is really unique, one of a kind, and the one that's most important to him.

5. There are two sides of a person: The good and the bad.

The little prince was enthusiastically talking about the baobabs at one point. He says that the bad seeds should be removed from the ground as early as possible, while the good seeds should be well taken care of. It should grow and prosper.

Whatever it is within us we always have to be acquainted with our reasons. Bad intentions ought to be disposed as early as the thought forms in our head, while good intentions should be motivated, so, the thought will no longer be only a figment of our mind's but, also, reality.
